5/8/2023 0 Comments Functional regionOur geo-temporal toolkit will constitute a resource in re-mapping the UK's regions based on various functional characteristics. The degree to which regional populations have remained stable over time or have become very heterogeneous may be compared to other economic and physical aspects of agglomeration, such as land values, transport networks and daily travel destinations. Our work will investigate the long-term and short-term interactions between UK regions, notably the origin and destination of both domestic and international migrants. Part of our aim is to produce a reasonably definitive measure of city performance and potentially extending this kind of analysis to temporal dynamics. You will learn how to source, identify and vet candidates. You will be coached and learn how to manage recruitment assignments across multiple locations. You will support existing accounts with a focus on International leadership searches. What is a functional region example A functional region is a region that serves a function. A region is generally defined as an area larger than a single city that contains unifying cultural and/or physical characteristics. This will be explored through graph theoretic partitions of cities and examine different kinds of interactions - adding flows to the networks and exploring different kinds of network decompositions, and integrated with new measures of income and related social, economic and physical attributes of the chosen urban systems.Īddressing current developments in devolution, city and regional policy around the 'Northern Powerhouse' and the 'Midlands Engine', we will also consider the notion of regions of cities as well as city regions. You will be joining our 12-month coaching program to become a Regional Consultant. A functional region is an area organized around a node. Our work on this project will focus on defining cities and measuring their performance on a range of social and economic attributes. The use of the regional method to describe a country implies that the region is regarded as a formal unit, but the description of regions in their own right. It will build upon UCL collaborative work with the Office for National Statistics in creating the 2011 Output Area Classification, and extend related work undertaken for the GLA for the Greater London area. Formal regions are areas in which a certain characteristic is found throughout them. New city definitions from the Mechanicity project show how stocks and flows of materials, people, information and energy over infrastructure networks can be used to remap functional regions of any town or city. Functional regions based on analysis of travel to work patterns have been shown to give a much better account of UK economic geography. They can also be defined by communication, like Wi-Fi hotspots or television signal areas. The New York City subway system is a functional region that moves people between downtown and the outlying boroughs. Currently regions used for economic statistics are defined by administrative boundaries. Functional regions are regions that have an obvious and natural structure or reason behind their existence. Functional regions can be defined by transportation, like a city metro system.

Also when I watch movies with PowerDVD, I have configured the sound to go through passthrough, so if the source (movie) has DTS or Dolby Digital, the device immediately recognizes it and it appears on the screen of the device: The truth is that it's great this way, so I don't depend on external drivers, it's done by the device itself. With the preset with the green arrow you get a great spatial sound and the subwoofer sounds as loud as if I listen to it at 2.1: I am using the preset with the red arrow, the Prologic 2 "music and film" presets also sound great, but the subwoofer power is a little low. Specs Sony Stylish DVD home cinema system 5.1 channels 1200 W Home Cinema Systems (DAV-DZ830W) () It turns out that I always thought that it only worked if the sound came from analog signal (jack), but it turns out that it also does it with the digital signal (spdif). Oh god, you will not believe it but it turns out that my Home Cinema model has the native way to transform the sound from 2 channels to 5.1, and the truth is that it does it wonderfully, in fact it also uses Pro-Logic 2 among other presets. I was these weeks with the VLC that also makes me Upmixing as we spoke, and although this one makes it more realistic in that sense that the APO equaliser, the sound of the Subwoofer lost much force with the upmixing that makes me the application of VLC, for that reason I tried to test now with the APO equaliser. In the front speakers and the center speaker you could hear the singer's voice and the instruments. Basically it is that, that in the rear speakers of my home cinema you hear the same as in the front speakers, and I remember that Dolby Pro Logic did make me a more realistic virtual 5.1, hearing in the rear speakers the echoes of the singer and some instruments of the song. I don't know if this is normal or if I have to configure something. But there is a problem, it makes me the same sound in the rear speakers that in the 2 front speakers, is not supposed that in the rear speakers should be heard the voice of the singer in "echo" and sounds of some instruments?, is that I remember that with Dolby Pro Logic was like that, it was a very successful virtual 5.1.What the equaliser APO does in my case is that you can hear in the rear speakers the same as in the front ones, like a 2.1. Hello again I'm the guy who opened this thread, I'm back at it: Installed Equalizer APO on Windows 11, and it turned off all output sounds Hello All, I have a laptop running Windows 11, and I tried to install an equalizing application to enhance my USB headphones sound quality, but it seems to have completely muted all sound from the laptop somehow. The primary bonus feature is a new, retrospective behind-the-scenes documentary which talks to pretty much everyone involved (except Kelly Preston), and is an interesting look into how such a nutso film came into being. 3D is clearly the way the film was meant to be seen. Metalstorm throws everything it can directly at the camera, from cool severed arms all the way to the most mundane of tree branches. That is, unless you have a 3D-capable television, because Shout! have included both the regular and the three-dimensional versions of the film in their new Blu-ray edition, which would surely make the viewing experience far more fun. Plus, Jared-Syn has a doll he can teleport at his enemies and then turn into a full-size monster, like Rita Repulsa on Power Rangers.īuck for buck, you can find better b-movie value in Shout! Things to look out for include Jared-Syn’s campy costume (complete with rubber pecs), Baal’s badass telescoping arm/Gak squirtgun, and the ‘80s metal video which seems to be constantly feathering Kelly Preston’s hair from just off-camera, even when she’s inside a cave. Still, it has its charms – particularly for Empire fans, who love the b-movie studio for repeatedly attempting to make big, flashy genre movies on inadequate budgets. (The movie’s title itself turns out not only to be pure nonsense, but an outright fib.) Metalstorm was to be the first film of a planned trilogy, which doesn’t help matters – it’s like everything we needed to know to follow along with this film was being saved for its unrealized sequels. It feels like large chunks of plot are missing, and pieces of important backstory are referenced in passing, but never fully explained. The semblance of a story that was strung together smells like knock-off Mad Max, Star Wars, and Dune all at once, never really deciding whether it wanted to be a post-apocalyptic actioner or epic space opera. Metalstorm certainly *looks* ambitious-but that’s nearly all that can be said about it. (The studio had spent good money outfitting theaters to screen that film, and need more three-dimensional product to hedge bets with their investment.) Band then had just over two months to finish the film before it landed in theaters and was forgotten by all but thorough sci-fi b-movie fans. It was the product of Charles Band’s Empire Pictures, and received a nice budget boost when a preview reel caught the attention of Universal, who picked up the film to pair with their upcoming Jaws 3-D. Metalstorm : The Destruction of Jared-Syn landed in the summer of 1983, right at the apex of the early ‘80s 3-D movie craze that brought films such as Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, Friday the 13 th Part III 3-D, and Treasure of the Four Crowns. With his armored dune buggy and newfound pals – orphaned miner girl Dhyana (Kelly Preston), cyclopean warrior Hurok ( Night Court’s Richard Moll), and general Han Solo-type Rhodes ( Trancers’ Tim Thomerson) – Dogen sullies out into the war zone to destroy Jared-Syn. It seems Dogen is the only one who can stop him (or the only one who really cares). (He doesn’t really bother to explain his nefarious mission in much detail.) His dastardly quest is headed by Baal, his mutant-cyborg son, who sprays green goo from his bionic arm which teleports its victims to an evil dream dimension. This big baddie’s name is Jared-Syn ( The Road Warrior’s Michael Preston), and he’s collecting human lives in glowing red crystals, which he’ll use to power up an even bigger crystal and, like, control the universe, or destroy it, or something along those lines. The film stars soap star Jeffrey Byron, Australian Mike Preston, the late Kelly Preston, genre fave Tim Thomerson and Night Court's Richard Moll.ĭan and Vicky give their thoughts on Metalstorm as well as recently seen items including Halloween Kills, The French Dispatch, Spielberg's The Sugarland Express, black Western The Harder They Fall and 1980 slasher Prom Night.įor tickets to Dan's show A Sherlock Carol visit: ĭon't forget to leave us feedback on our social media pages and visit our website at Byron plays Dogen, a ranger who’s tasked himself with stalking an evil warlord across his unidentified, Southwestern-looking planet. Composed by Band's brother Richard, the music gives the film a gravitas that the chintzy special effects, languid pace and bad acting don't. Of the many quirky elements of the film, it's bombastic orchestral score sticks out as belonging to a different movie. A negative pickup for Universal Pictures to cash in on the 3D trend partially initiated by the company's own Jaws 3, low budget sci fi epic Metalstorm failed to spark at the box office. 5/8/2023 0 Comments Token coinageCurrently, Dogecoin (DOGE) is trading at $0.0735 – about 90% short of the previous all-time high price of $0.74. Fortunately, investors are realizing that investing in a meme coin is like playing the lottery, while investing in a promising project is like buying a stock in a growing company. Unlike TMS Network (TMSN), meme coins like Dogecoin (DOGE) and ApeCoin (APE) are often created as a joke and always lack the fundamentals of real-world use cases. The recent dip in the value of meme coins is a testament to the growing interest in innovative projects. However, their popularity may be short-lived as innovative projects like TMS Network (TMSN) are gaining ground and providing more value to users. The rise of meme coins like Shiba Inu, Dogecoin (DOGE), and ApeCoin (APE) took the world by storm, capturing the attention of investors seeking quick profits in the crypto market. TMS Network (TMSN) is an all-in-one cutting-edge decentralized trading platform that promises to improve derivative trading. However, these meme coins are losing their appeal as investors dump them to make way for a new player in town – TMS Network (TMSN). Over the years, meme coins like ApeCoin (APE) and Dogecoin (DOGE) have topped the chart as an alternate investment opportunity. 5/8/2023 0 Comments Standard bank digimeOver R106 million was lost to fraudulent activity on other banking apps alone in 2019. Having friends I can talk to has been an immense help. If something happens to me, at least someone will know. If a girl goes through infibulation and then disappears, we never find out. I stayed in bed for two days, wondering, “Is it worth it?” But then I felt guilty. The first time my picture appeared in a newspaper, I had death threats. It was a way of saying to these girls, “You’re British and we care about you as much as anyone else.” My vagina is British it doesn’t have a different passport. But I didn’t want to be treated with sympathy: I wanted to talk about survivors, not victims, and I wanted to prevent it.įirst came redefining FGM with the Home Office as an act of violence then defining it as child abuse. It was early 2011 when I first said, “I’m Nimco and I’m an FGM survivor.” A lot of people were shocked. People were saying, “How can mothers allow this?” but I was saying, “How can you, as a citizen of this country, know a five-year-old is about to be cut and stand by because you’re afraid to offend her community? You’re telling that child she doesn’t matter.” It was early 2011 when I first said, 'I’m Nimco and I’m an FGM survivor.' A lot of people were shocked It’s not up to communities to police themselves. I’ve seen community work being done for years, and it doesn’t work. I want to place the responsibility in the hands of the state. I got together with Leyla, and we started to do more with MPs. I wanted to educate people, yes, but this isn’t a question of ignorance it’s organised crime. Around 2010, I moved to London and came across people working around FGM, but I couldn’t see what they were trying to achieve. Then I started to see my silence as complicity. I had FGM as a seven-year-old, and later saw girls going through it, but I didn’t join the conversation. She is the co-founder, with Leyla Hussein, of Daughters of Eve, a non-profit organisation that supports young women from communities that practise female genital mutilation (FGM) Nimco Ali, co-founder of Daughters of Eve. That’s one thing I do see changing, and it’s really good. But the other thing is that you’re representing lives, and lives look all different ways and shapes. I don’t bring a suitcase with my dossier in it to an audition, I bring my body, so you can’t moan about the fact that you’re judged on your looks: it’s showbusiness. If I could go back, I’d say, “Think about the bigger picture.” Of course, it’s a visual medium. I spent far too much time when I was younger thinking about how much I weighed. I always tried to stay challenged and work hard, but also keep my hand in and stir the pot at home. My girls and my son and my husband are all way too much in each other’s business, I would say, but we’re close and that’s important. Decisions I made in my career were not always based on aesthetic criteria: was it near, was it going to be shot in the vacation? You make all sorts of compromises in order to have this other thing that you value. That’s a really tough gig, and I don’t know if I could have had four kids and done that. Going from job to job, never knowing where the next one would be, has allowed me to spend time with my four kids – more than if I’d worked at a desk job. Women have 17% of the influence, more or less, in every part of the decision-making process in the industry Twenty years ago, I would have been playing witches and crones. I’m 67, so mostly I get things for people that age, and there are wonderful projects that would never have existed even 10 years ago. But the material that comes to me is still interesting. Women have 17% of the influence, more or less, in every part of the decision-making process in the industry and, inevitably, that’s going to decide what kind of films are made. If they were overwhelmingly female, there would be a hue and cry about it. The influencers in our industry are overwhelmingly men: the critics, the directors’ branch of the Academy. ‘Women’s rights?
